This survey was conducted using High Definition Interactive Voice Response (HD-IVR™) technology, which allows respondents to enter their preferences by punching the keypad on their phone, rather than telling them to an operator. In an effort to reduce the coverage bias of landline only RDD, we created a dual landline/cell phone RDD sampling frame for this research. As a result, we are able to reach those with a landline and cell phone, as well as cell phone only households and landline only households.
The field dates for this survey are September 2-4, 2021. In total, a random sample of 1,158 Canadians aged 18 and over responded to the survey. The margin of error associated with the total sample is +/- 2.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
Please note that the margin of error increases when the results are sub-divided (i.e., error margins for sub-groups such as region, sex, age, education). All the data have been statistically weighted by age, gender, and region to ensure the sample’s composition reflects that of the actual population of Canada according to Census data.

stephanie, if you could volunteer to be polled, the results would be pretty much useless. randomness is why this is useful. and, that’s the answer to your question – people are selected at random. the only poll you can volunteer for is the one on election day.
I was recently contacted to do a survey for EKOS and I must say that I am completely unimpressed. Despite the extensive history this organization claims to have in relation to surveys, the questions posed and answers provided are completely limited and biased. For example when asking about the issues that are most important to me, out of the options given, none had to do with the environment. However, the “economy” and “social” issues were clearly front and center. In fact the “economy” was the first choice on that list. Perhaps this is an indication of unconscious bias? What was clearly missing as an option was the environment; yet, the environment is, according to many surveys in the past, one of the most pressing issues on the minds of Canadians right now. The survey’s failure to include this as an option is a clear indication that EKOS’s survey wants to frame the federal election according to the conservative (economy first) vs liberal (economy, social issues first) vs NDP (social issues first) narrative. Don’t get me wrong, I will be voting for one of those three parties, but not for any reasons listed on the survey.
I would not be surprised if, yet again, the EKOS survey results are going to be way out in left field come election day. In the future please consider including a less biased and limited selection of answers to accurately reflect the issues for Canadians.
The only real opposing platform is PPC. Conservative is now officially just another recycled LIB/NDP platform. Vote PPC for freedom.
